What is a smart city?
Smart City is the integration of information technology and urban construction to push urban informatization to a higher stage. It is based on tools and methods such as the Internet, cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things, and mobile Internet to sense, analyze, and integrate various key information of the core system of urban operation. Smart cities include smart technologies, smart industries, smart applications, smart services, smart governance, smart humanities, smart life and other contents, involving all aspects of urban construction and closely related to the lives of residents.

In 2013, more than 100 cities in China announced to build smart cities, covering part of the eastern, central and western regions. At present, China's AI research is in an explosive period. The number of AI related patent applications in China has continued to increase since 2010, reaching 19197 in 2014 and 28022 in 2015. In 2016, the annual number of applications for patents related to artificial intelligence in China was 29023. In 2017, the number of applications for patents related to artificial intelligence in China reached 34042. In 2018, there have been more than 37000 so far, and it is still growing. It is expected that the number of applications for patents related to artificial intelligence will reach about 50000 by 2000.
